Upon first arriving to Vienna, it didn't really hit me that I was in a foreign country. Walking around the city, I would see that the actual buildings are old and look very European however, I still didn't feel like I was away from Seattle or in an unfamiliar place. Usually when I travel away from home, Seattle, I tend to become overwhelmingly uncomfortable with the unfamiliar atmosphere I find myself in. But, in coming to Vienna I didn't feel that and still have yet to feel that.
Besides the strange sense of familiarity I feel with the city, Vienna has really proven to be a very clean city! Every night they clean the streets, parks, subways, etc. It is insane! And they are so meticulous about it as well. It is kind of funny to be honest. But Vienna is clean. Going along with the cleanliness, the Viennese are crazy about their recycle...its far beyond any Pacific Northwestern I have EVER seen. We probably have five different bins for the various material types to be recycled, yeah no big deal. But Seattle could probably learn a little from Vienna's crazy recycle tendencies.
Another thing, this city has more babys and young pregnant women than I have ever seen in a big city/metropolis...
Overall, Vienna is a beautiful, clean and inviting city and I am excited to explore and learn more about the city and the culture.
