First Impression

The last time I visited Vienna was around 8 years ago. Vienna was one of many cities I visited over the course of two weeks during one of my last summers living in Europe. Being only 12 years old, accompanied by parents and older sister, and visiting for a far shorter period, this second stay in Vienna will likely be a far different experience to my first.

The Shonbrunn Palace is the most comparable of my memories. From what I remember of my first visit, an event was taking place in the Palace courtyard, packed with people and carriages. Inside the palace itself was packed with people, and like cattle we would shuffle from room to room. Eight years later I am thankful that I have been given the opportunity to visit Vienna at a time where is not flooded with tourist. As in many cases, the popularity of a city in the Summer months can often destroy the beauty and presence of a place.

Visiting Vienna in Spring has given us the pleasure of experiencing all the beauty that this city has to offer in ( weather conditions) without the company of thousands of other tourist. The city is fairly calm and relaxed. The locals seem friendly and outgoing, eager to help and enhance our experience. Their everyday lifestyle is very appealing, spending much of their free time sipping coffee and eating cakes in small cafes or lounging on the grass in the parks.

The city is nicely compact and the transport system straight forward which makes it ideal for exploring. One immediate downside to this wonderful city is the price! Everything is expensive. I thought starbucks was expensive in America, but not it seems like a bargain. Besides that zero complaints, and I'm excited for the adventures to come..
