First second Impressions of Vienna

Seeing as this is not actually my first time in Vienna, it would be unfair for me to consider this a first impression post. It would be better just to give an account of what feels like its changed, stayed the same or even improved since my last visit.

Quick and reliable transportation seems to be the heart and soul of Vienna. Upon being reconnected with the beloved U-Bahn, I was reminded of how easily you could be shuttled from one old church to another. From the doors of Stephansdom to the steps of Karlskirche one must only take a few steps thanks to the trusty red line. The ease of transportation has been a part of Vienna for so long that it has rubbed off on the people themselves, instilling a "go-go" attitude in most pedestrians I meet. Standing on the right side of an escalator is a must or else you face the chance of being confronted with an annoyed look by an impatient Austrian businessman.

Whenever Austrians are not busy running down escalators they participate in the olympic sport of Endurance Sitting/coffee drinking. I suppose one could consider them extremists, touching both ends of the busyness spectrum. It never fails to amaze me how long they can stretch out a coffee or a meal at the local cafe'. Ive walked past a cafe', only to find the same person sitting there drinking his espresso an hour and a half later. Is this some sort of auto refilling cup, or is he actually enjoying it that much? Whatever the answer may be, I plan to adopt this Viennese style of life. I will run for the metro in order to make it to my favorite coffee shop and sip an espresso for two hours.
Here is to the new Viennese me.
